Bake & Decorate - Remembrance Day

"In Flanders Fields, the poppies blow" Poppies are the symbol for this day and as such should be prominent in your decorations. Even if it is just a bouquet of poppies on your table do something to show your support of the men and women who died to defend our right to live as we want. If you are a little more creative you can try one of these wreaths for your front door. For now, see what you can find and check out my board for other ideas . I'll talk more about this as we get closer to the day.

Bake & Decorate - Thanksgiving

Happy Birthday to me Thanksgiving is five days away plenty of time to do a couple of things to make it festive even if you are only doing it for yourself. If you have a cafe table or a table with multiple leaves you can decorate cheaply and if you are like me you have the basic ingredients to make a cookie or two as a treat in the house. So if you don't get or haven't spent all of your GST yet go to your nearest dollar store and pick up a basic thanksgiving, autumn set of party stuff. You know a tablecloth, some paper plates & napkins and set your table with them.  Now doesn't that feel festive?  Next find a small jar and a votive (candle). Go outside and pick a few of the colourful leaves off the nearby trees or if you are still at the dollar store pick up some fake leaves. Depending on the size of the jar you will need between four and ten mid size leaves. I like maple because they are very colourful and of a large size. Get your mod podge and a sponge brush then fo

Monday Makes- Pencil Toppers

Today I'm going to talk about something that is both fun & silly at the same time. Most days I write with a pencil but not always and when I don't want to work with them I keep them on my desk in a container I made. The other day I was looking at them and got thinking how can I make them less boring to look at? I remembered the replacement erasers we used to have for them. From there I remembered some more fanciful ones I'd seen in the Oriental stores. I thought, I can do that, and it would be a good way to use up some of those felt squares I have lying around. A search on Pinterest found dozens of DIY ideas and found a web site called Play Ideas which has 2 articles devoted to the subject and two others that had ideas withing them. Click here to see the search results on this site.   I couldn't decide on one theme so I am still thinking about it but I will do this.  It occurs to me that you probably don't understand why I would look for kids crafts instead

Monday Makes - Watermelon

Watermelon Pinwheel Sometimes you just got to have some fun! Let your inner child play, when I came across this craft I thought looks like fun! Pinwheels are so cool I can watch them for hours as they spin in the wind, I find it quite relaxing as well.  Watermelon Sun Catche r This one calls for "clear shelf liner self-adhesive" . I have used Con-tact before and prefer it to other brands. Check out the Amazon link above to get an idea of what they are talking about. It is not really expensive and you get enough for this craft and to actually put a shelf liner on your cabinets if you want, Remember this stuff can be used nearly anywhere you need a clear cover I'll probably use mine to put a dust cover on some of my dioramas For more ideas on how to bring a watermelon into your life without the mess check out "The Inspiration Edit" for some other ideas
