National Mutt Day

National Mutt Day celebrates mixed breed dogs, and was created by Colleen Paige, a pet and family lifestyle expert and animal advocate, who also created days such as National Dog DayNational Puppy Day, and National Cat Day. The goal of the day is to embrace, save, and celebrate mixed breed dogs by creating awareness about the great numbers of them in animal shelters that are in need of a home. Mixed breed dogs make up the largest percentage of dogs that are abandoned and euthanized, and make up about 80% of dogs in shelters. In an effort to further raise awareness, National Mutt Day takes place on two days during the year. The hoped for result of the day is that people visit animal shelters and adopt a mixed breed dog, or possibly donate their time and money to shelters.

Celebrate the day by going to an animal shelter and adopting a mixed breed dog. If you can't adopt a dog at this time, volunteer at a shelter, or donate food, money, or other supplies to one. You could also celebrate the day by watching Benji, or learning about other famous mixed breed dogs:

I could not find any recent pictures of Coco Chanel my dog. She doesn't live with me because we are not allowed pets here she stays with my daughter. I wish they would allow us at least a small dog for company but there is a strict no pets rule here because some of the tenants have severe allergies. And I love my home!

Hello March

May the sun be with us! Except with the quiet coming of March be on the lookout for at least one more big storm before the end of the month. I love the sun but I always hope March comes in like a lion so that it will go out like a lamb. I can deal with cold and snow early in the month but I always wish for the beauty of sun and green buds on the trees at the end of it.

So where did the phrase 'In like a lamb, out like a lion' come from?

There are several ideas:

While many sayings are base on observation and are accurate, others are the rhymes and beliefs of those who came before us.
Those folks actually believed that bad spirits could change the weather adversely, so they were cautious as to what they did or didn't do in certain situations.  Those beliefs also included ideas that there could be a balance in weather and in life. So if the weather came in bad, (like a lion) it could go out good and calm. (like a lamb)
Since March is such a changeable month in which we can see…

National Make a Friend Day

I am not very good at making friends or keeping them it seems. I do not go outside much, in fact I hardly leave my home unless it is family related. That makes it hard especially since friends expect you to come to them at least once in a while and I find I can't.

If it were simply a matter of laziness it would be understandable but it isn't. Some days I can't even open the door to let in some fresh air. I do not know where the fear comes from I just know that that is what I feel when I think about going outside most of the time.

Agoraphobia: Triggers for this anxiety may include wide-open spaces, crowds (social anxiety), or traveling (even short distances). Agoraphobia is often, but not always, compounded by a fear of social embarrassment, as the agoraphobic fears the onset of a panic attack and appearing distraught in public.
Causes: Genetic and environmental factors Symptoms: Anxiety in situations perceived to be unsafe, panic attacks Treatment: Cognitive behavioral ther…

National Pizza Day

I am celebrating today! Several things actually!

1) I like Pizza & I have a perfect reason to make one. It's National Pizza Day! Its going to be a simple one though made with an everything bagel with pizza sauce, pepperoni & cheese. I might even add some onions and peppers for a filling supper.

2) Getting the pantry of my dreams. The one I bought is similar to a cupboard that sat in the house of one of my Uncles for as long as I could remember. It was a bit more delicate than the one I bought though. It looked a little like this one.

3) The Professor as confirmed that we will be going to Ottawa for Valentines, I am over the moon! It won't be the week I wanted but it is going to be four days & three nights.

It means that I can explore the Byward district a bit more than I did a few years ago. Happy Dance!
